Performer Bios
JOHN SCOTT is Professor of Clarinet at the University of North Texas. He has performed and taught at the Summer Music Institute founded by the University of North Texas and the Ministry of Education in Taiwan. Mr. Scott is a member of the Richardson Symphony Orchestra, and has performed with such orchestras as the Dallas Symphony and the Ft. Worth Symphony, and as a recitalist and clinician throughout the United States. His performances have included the Victoria Bach Festival in Texas, the New York University Contemporary Music Festival, and at conferences and workshops in Denver, Tempe, Lubbock, Salt Lake City, San Juan, Ostend, Stockholm, London, Paris and Vancouver as well as in recitals throughout Taiwan and Japan. He performs regularly with Chamber Music International. Recordings include "Birdsongs, Romantic Chamber Music of Arthur Bird," and "Equipoise." He is a member of the Texas Clarinet Consort.
He has been a member of the University of North Texas College of Music faculty since 1981. Prior to joining the UNT faculty he taught at Susquehanna University (PA) and Augusta State University (GA). He earned both the Master of Music and Doctor of Music degree in applied woodwinds and music literature from Indiana University (Bloomington), where he was a clarinet student of Henry Gulick.
His former students have held positions in numerous orchestras, schools, colleges and universities throughout the United States and in premier military bands in Washington, D.C. Several have been semi-finalists and prizewinners in the I.C.A. Young Artist Competition and Orchestral Competition.
He has served as reviewer, Music Review Editor and Advertising Manager for The Clarinet, journal of the International Clarinet Association. In addition to his duties as Professor of Clarinet, he serves as Associate Dean for Admissions and Scholarship Services in the College of Music at the University of North Texas. He is an artist-clinician for Buffet-Crampon.
PATRICIA PIERCE CARD, Associate Professor of Clarinet, joined the Sam Houston State University faculty in 2001. Prior to this appointment, she was the Assistant Professor of Clarinet at Oklahoma City University. In addition to her teaching position, Dr. Card was also the principal clarinet of the Oklahoma City Philharmonic Orchestra from 1997 to 2001. She was an active musician and private teacher in Richardson, Texas preceding the move to Oklahoma City.
Dr. Card has performed at the International Clarinet Association's ClarinetFest 2004 (Washington D.C.) and 2008 (Kansas City) and at the 2005 National Flute Association Convention in San Diego. She has been a featured guest artist at the Midwest convention in Chicago and Texas Music Educators Association in San Antonio. She has also presented clinics at the Texas Music Educators Association convention, the Texas Bandmasters Association convention and the Oklahoma Music Educators Association convention. Dr. Card was a finalist in the 1989 International Clarinet Association Competition (Minneapolis-St. Paul, MN) and a finalist in the 1991 Young Artist Competition (Midland-Odessa, TX). She was awarded the Outstanding Graduate Student in Instrumental Studies in 1995 from the University of North Texas and has been twice included in the Who's Who Among American's Teachers.
Dr. Card received the Doctor of Musical Arts in clarinet performance at the University of North Texas, the Master of Music from the University of Michigan and a Bachelor of Music from North Texas State University. Her major teachers include John Scott, John Mohler and James Gillespie.
DMITRY PEREVERTAILENKO, Adjunct Professor of Clarinet, is an active recitalist and studio teacher. He has performed throughout the United States and Europe. He recently performed the Copland Clarinet Concerto with the Kharkiv Municipal Orchestra and the North Texas Symphony Orchestra. From 2004 to 2007, he was principal clarinetist with the Las Colinas Symphony Orchestra. Dr. Perevertailenko has won multiple competitions including the International Competition for the 50th Anniversary of Israel (Moscow, 1999) and the North Texas Concerto Competition (2006).
Prior to his position at SHSU, Dr. Perevertailenko was the clarinet and saxophone instructor at the Music Place and Arts Conservatory (Mansfield, TX) and for the Denton Independent School District. He also held a Development Associate position with the Dallas Symphony Orchestra (2008-2009).
Dr. Perevertailenko began playing the clarinet at age 10. At the age of 17, he was admitted to the Moscow State Conservatorie, where be obtained the Higher Education Diploma (5- year degree). Dr. Perevertailenko completed the Mast of Music from Sam Houston State University and the Doctor of Musical Arts in clarinet performance at the University of North Texas. His major teachers include Valeri Altukhov, Raphael Bagdasaryn, Patricia Card and John Scott.
