The Intersection New Music Ensemble
The Intersection New Music Ensemble was founded in 2008 by Professor Brian P. Herrington (link to my page) at Sam Houston State University. The ensemble consists of a pool of musicians dedicated to contemporary music and musical improvisation. The ensemble meets weekly to prepare new works and explore fresh approaches to improvisation.
The ensemble had its debut performance at the Region VI Society of Composers Conference in April 2008. The ensemble sponsored a Young Composers workshop in June 2008, to encourage dialogue about compositional issues. The ensemble’s inaugural collaborative project, entitled Divine Conversation, brought together young artists and musicians in a large performance space to create a special surround-sound experience for the audience. Intersection will perform at the Annual SHSU Contemporary Music Festival in 2009.

Mission
Our mission is to bring musical improvisation to unique spaces beyond the traditional concert hall. Our activities explore concepts that are the essence of human existence: freedom, control, unity, and individuality.
As part of the university community, we seek to be a true research organization by pressing boundaries of conventional musical performance.
