Brandon Bell

A native of Buffalo, NY, percussionist Brandon Bell received his Master of Music degree from The Shepherd School of Music, Rice University, where he studied with Richard Brown. He received his B.M. from The Peabody Conservatory of Music, The Johns Hopkins University, where he studied with Jonathan Haas and Robert van Sice. While at Peabody, he also studied conducting with Dr. Harlan Parker.

Bell has participated in numerous summer festivals including the Aspen Music Festival, the American Institute of Musical Studies in Graz, Austria, the Hot Springs Music Festival, the Washington Summer Opera, the Ohio Light Opera, and the National Repertory Orchestra. For three summers he has also served as principal percussionist of the Bard Conductor’s Institute. Bell has performed under such renowned conductors as Leonard Slatkin, David Zinman, Leon Fleisher, David Robertson, Andrew Litton, Kristjan Jarvi, Gerard Schwarz, and Hans Graf. As a chamber musician Bell has performed with artists such as Donald Sutherland, Kathleen Winkler, Leone Buyse, and Svet Stoyanov.

An advocate of new music, Bell formed and conducted the 20/21 new music group at The Shepherd School. He also has performed several concerts, both as percussionist and conductor, with the Foundation for Modern Music.

During the winter of 2006 Bell was percussionist on the 25th Anniversary National Tour of Evita. Currently a freelance percussionist/timpanist in Houston, Bell is Adjunct Instructor of Percussion at Sam Houston State University. He is also an adjunct faculty member at Lone Star College- CyFair. In addition to teaching, he maintains an active performance schedule with Strike 3 Percussion: a Houston-based percussion trio of which he is a founding member. In addition, Bell has performed with the Houston Chamber Orchestra, Cantare Houston, Victoria Symphony, Houston Chamber Choir, Colorado Symphony, River Oaks Chamber Orchestra, and the Houston Grand Opera, among others.
