Profile of Ellary Draper

Ellary Draper is a Visiting Assistant Professor of Music Therapy at Sam Houston State University. She completed her master’s degree in music therapy at Florida State University. Her undergraduate degree is in music education from Westminster Choir College of Rider University.
Prof. Draper has worked with a wide range of clients. She completed her internship in Fairfax County Public Schools at Marshall Road elementary school with Becky Sowers. While there she worked with elementary students with various disabilities including: autism, emotional disorders, behavior disorders, and learning disabilities. She also taught general music class.
While in Tallahassee, Prof. Draper worked with psychiatric patients in a residential facility. She also worked one-on-one with a middle schooler who had autism and with a preschool class of students with disabilities. She assisted Tallahassee Memorial Hospital’s music therapists with their Little Ones Music class, an early intervention initiative and ongoing research project.
Originally from Maryland outside of Washington, D.C., Prof. Draper’s primary instrument is the piano. She also sang in three choral ensembles at Westminster Choir College performing in multiple choir tours of the eastern seaboard. Additionally she performed in New York’s Avery Fischer Hall with Lorin Maazel, Marin Alsop, and the New York Philharmonic. One of those performances (Bernstein’s Candide with Alsop) was recorded for PBS’s Great Performances. Other major works performances include Brahms’ Requiem with Raphael Frühbeck de Burgos (Dresden Philharmonic) and with Neeme Järvi (New Jersey Symphony Orchestra).
