In recent years tenor Randolph Lacy has performed with the Fresno Philharmonic in Verdi's Requiem; with the Sacramento Ballet in Carl Orff's Carmina Burana; with Ars Lyrica in Handel's La Resurrezione; with the Boulder Philharmonic in Mozart's Requiem; with the Fresno Community Chorus in Rossini's Petite Messe Solennelle; in three works with the Orpheus Ensemble - William Walton's Façade, John Corigliano's Poem in October, and Benjamin Britten's Les Illuminations; with the Houston Bach Society in J. S. Bach's Johannespassion and Matthäuspassion (as the Evangelist); and with Houston Baptist University as Tamino in Mozart's The Magic Flute. In the Summer of 2008, Randolph co-starred with Neale Donald Walsch (the author of Conversations with God) in a tour of a new musical entitled Onebody by James Coventry. He also sang with Conspirare (directed by Craig Hella Johnson) on their Grammy-nominated CD of music by Tarik O'Regan entitled Threshold of Night, released in 2008 by Harmonia Mundi.
Randolph has performed as soloist in Mexico City with the Orquesta Sinfónica de Minería in the Berlioz Requiem; in Bethesda, Maryland with the Landon Symphonette in Handel's Messiah; with the Houston Masterworks Chorus in Handel's oratorio, Israel in Egypt; with the Houston Chamber Choir in productions of Mozart's Requiem and Rachmaninoff's Vespers; with the Houston Bach Society as the Evangelist in the newly rediscovered St. Matthew Passion by C.P.E. Bach, and at the Festival at Roundtop, singing music of Jacopo Peri with harpist Becky Baxter.
He has also performed with the Houston Symphony as narrator and singer (in the role of Hector Berlioz) in a series of young persons' concerts entitled, "Symphony? Fantastic!" In addition, he performed in the world premiere of Parizade and the Singing Tree, a work for narrator and chamber ensemble by Rice University composer Karim Al-Zand.
On stage, Randolph has appeared with the Houston Grand Opera, Chamber Opera Chicago, Opera Memphis, the Anchorage Opera, the Kentucky Opera and Houston's Theatre Under the Stars. His concert work includes performances with the Austin Symphony, the Anchorage Symphony, Baton Rouge Symphony, the Boulder Philharmonic, the Chicago String Ensemble, the Fresno Philharmonic, the Michigan Bach Festival, Da Camera, and the Houston Masterworks Chorus.
Randolph has a Doctor of Musical Arts Degree from the Moores School of Music, University of Houston. While there, he performed with orchestra and chorus as the tenor soloist in the Berlioz Requiem, and in the role of the Evangelist in J. S. Bach's Johannespassion. His operatic performances there included the title character in Mozart's opera La Clemenza di Tito, the role of the Conte di Libenskof in Rossini's Il Viaggio a Reims, Count Almaviva in Corigliano's The Ghosts of Versailles and Tirsi in Jacopo Peri's opera Euridice. With the UH Collegium Musicum, he has sung the role of Acis in Handel's masque, Acis & Galatea, the role of Bellezza in a staged production of Handel's Il Trionfo del Tempo e della Verità, and the role of the Narrator in Monteverdi's Il Combattimento di Tancredi e Clorinda. With Aura, the UH contemporary music ensemble, he has performed John Corigliano's Poem in October. Dr. Lacy holds Master and Bachelor Degrees in Vocal Performance from the Shepherd School of Music at Rice University.
He has been a featured soloist in several events with the PSALM (Palmer Society for the Appreciation of Liturgy and Music) series, including two concerts with the early music ensemble Ars Lyrica Houston, directed by Matthew Dirst. In the world premiere of jazz composer Paul English's, "Wrestling with my God", he performed solos composed specifically for him, and in a concert with the Westport Ensemble, he sang two solo cantatas by Telemann. Also, in "An Evening in Venice," a concert of Italian baroque music, he performed music of Claudio Monteverdi and Alessandro Grandi.
As a young artist, he received fellowships to both the Boston Symphony's Tanglewood Music Center and the Aspen Music Festival, and an apprenticeship in the Glimmerglass Opera's Young Artist Program.
