Music Scholarship Information
A Music Scholarship is a type of financial asstance offered by the School of Music to encourage students to continues their music studies at Sam Houston State University.
There are few scholarships available each year....and they are highly competitive.
Scholarships are awarded each year based on all of the following factors:
- the overall funds available for scholarships each year,
- the student's playing ability as compared to other students competing for the same scholarship, and
- the needs of the School of Music for each instrument/voice.
Due to the limited availibility of scholarship funds, Music Scholarships are only available to students majoring in music.
Financial stipends are available to all students (music majors AND non-music majors) participating in the Bearkat Marching Band.
To be considered for a music scholarship:
- _____ Have three people familiar with your abilities as a musician and student complete the Scholarship Recommendation form. These three people should send the completed form directly to the School of Music.
- _____ Sign up for an Entrance Audition (for acceptance into the School of Music), which will also be used as the Scholarship Audition. In this way, the student will need to perform only one audition, instead of two. Be sure to follow all instructions on that page.
