History

The School of Music is part of the College of Arts and Sciences, SHSU's largest of five colleges. There is a broad spectrum of academic areas within this college including the humanities, performing and visual arts, sciences, and mathematics. Pre-professional programs are also offered in many areas as preparatory courses for entrance into professional schools.
The School of Music is accredited by the National Association of Schools of Music. We serve well over 300 music majors with tracks in music education, music therapy, music performance, music therory, and music literature. Our mission statement, details on programs of study, curricula requirements, and full catalogue of classes may be found on SHSU's official School of Music Catalogue page.
The School of Music Building, which opened in 1986, features 3 rehearsal halls, 5 classrooms, an electronic piano lab, a music computer lab, electronic music studio, and many practice rooms.
