application for degree

Who should apply for graduation?

Students who will complete their degree requirements in the current semester should apply for graduation by the deadline dates as prescribed in the Academic Calendar (http://www.shsu.edu/~reg_www/academic_calendar/)

**Note:  August graduates will apply in the Spring semester prior to the summer sessions and should note the deadline date prescribed in the Spring semester by viewing the Academic Calendar listed above.**

Is an Application for Degree required?

Yes, the Application for Degree is required in order to:

  • Have an academic review processed
  • Have a degree posted at the completion of your degree
  • Have your name included in the commencement program *
  • Receive a diploma

*Special attention should be noted to the fact that the commencement program is sent to press early in a semester of graduation, and therefore, students who do not submit an Application for Degree by the published deadline date run the risk of NOT being included in the commencement program.

*Additionally, students who at some point in their registration invoked the Buckley Amendment will NOT have their names printed in the commencement program.  The Buckley Amendment is a federal privacy act, which once invoked, prohibits the publishing of student name by the university.

Application Deadlines:

Students are encouraged to submit an Application for Degree by the published deadline dates set in the Academic Calendar as mentioned above to avoid paying the late fee after the deadline date.

Applications may be submitted after the deadline date within a semester, however, the late fee will apply immediately following the deadline date.  Degree applications for a graduation are due within that semester will not be accepted after the commencement ceremony has taken place.

Current Application for Degree Deadlines:

To graduate December 2008, submit an Application for Degree by September 10, 2008, for a $25.00 fee.  Applications received after September 10, will require a $50.00 fee payment.

To graduate August 2009, submit an Application for Degree by March 4, 2009. Applications received after March 4, will require a $50.00 fee payment.

Fees for Applications for Degree:
